CREC Bus Rules, Parent Policies, & Guidelines
Drop-off Policy
Children in K through third grade cannot be dropped off without an adult at the stop to receive the child. This adult does not have to be the parent. A parent may approve a younger individual such as a sibling, friend, etc. who may be less than adult age but satisfies the parent with the maturity level to be responsible for the young student.
The bus driver must never drop a K through grade 3 student without such supervision.
This child must be brought to the designated location after the run has been completed. The driver must inform dispatch and dispatch must inform dispatch immediately upon determination that the adult is not available at the stop to receive the child.
Parent Responsibilities
Parents should make sure that children reach the school bus stop at least 10 minutes prior to the scheduled bus pick-up. Parents must make arrangements to accompany children grades K to 3 to and from bus stops.
Parents should instruct children to:
Walk on sidewalks;
Look both ways before crossing roads;
Wait on the sidewalk, off the road pavement;
Wait until the bus stops before trying to board;
Behave appropriately walking to and from and while at the bus stop;
Follow the behavior outlined for all students
*Different delay times for different towns: If children from Bloomfield and Windsor are brought to Breakthrough on one bus and Hartford Public Schools is starting school on time, Bloomfield has a two-hour delay, and Windsor has a 90-minute delay, then the bus will run on a two-hour delay because that is the longest delay on that bus route.
*One town is open and one is closed: If children from South Windsor and East Hartford are brought to Breakthrugh on one bus and Hartford Public Schools is starting school on time, South Windsor is closed but East Hartford is open, then the bus will not stop at any of the South Windsor stops but will go to the East Hartford stops.
There is no easy solution to bringing students to and from school in bad weather, but student safety is RSCO’s first priority. Buses will always operate slower to be safe when there are poor road conditions. RSCO appreciates your patience, understanding, and cooperation on these challenging days. If you have questions, please contact RSCO Transportation at 860-524-4077, or transportation@crec.org.
