K-3 Early Start Summer Programming 2024
The Early Start Program is a K-3 summer program offered to students demonstrating difficulty in the acquisition of basic early literacy skills as measured by the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS.)
Summer programming registration is now open for Early Start at the Expeditionary Learning Academy at Moylan School (ELAMS)! Early Start will run July 8-August 2, 2024 for students currently in grades K-3 who have scored in the "Substantially Below Grade Level" range of the DIBELS 8 Benchmark Assessment. Early Start programming will be provided to students from 8:15-12:15, with an optional afternoon program from 12:15-3:30 at the Boys and Girls Club, Southwest or OPMAD at Breakthrough South. The Boys and Girls Club, Southwest is located at 1 Chandler Street, Hartford. Transportation will be provided to the Boys and Girls Club, Southwest and OPMAD at Breakthrough South at 12:15. Please note that openings at the Boys and Girls Club and OPMAD at Breakthrough South are offered on a limited basis.
Transportation will be provided to the Expeditionary Learning Academy at Moylan School (ELAMS) for both Hartford residents and suburban students. Hartford residents receive transportation based on Hartford Public Schools transportation guidelines. Transportation home will be provided after academic programming at 12:15. Students participating in afternoon programming through the Boys and Girls Club or OPMAD will need to be picked up by 4:00 at the Boys and Girls Club on Chandler Street or OPMAD at Breakthrough South.

Hartford Summer Reading Challenge: PreK-12
Hartford Public Schools and the Hartford Public Library are hosting the annual Hartford Summer Reading Challenge. The goal of this challenge is to promote, provide opportunities and instill a love of reading to our preK-12th grade students.
The theme of this year’s challenge is History: Reading Through Time in connection with Hartford Public Library’s 250th Anniversary. Students will be challenged to read 20 minutes a day and complete activities on a gameboard to win prizes:
Lunch with the Superintendent
Hartford Yard Goats experiences
Families are also invited to participate in the Summer Reading Challenge Kickoff and 250th Anniversary Parade event on June 1st from 12pm-3pm.
The Summer Reading Challenge will run from June 17th to August 17th.
