ATTENTION B.M.S. 8th GRADE PARENTS!
THE TIME IS HERE!

Our 8th graders must select the high schools they would like to apply to for next school year. Please attend a special informational meeting for you this Thursday, 1/14 from 6:00-7:30 in the Teacher Training Center (Room 206) at Breakthrough. Our teachers and Ms. Johnson will be present to support you. Further, parents of students who attended Breakthrough but now attend a variety of local high schools will also be there to provide more information and answer questions.

Each 8th grade student is bringing a blue flyer home which must be returned to school with your attendance plans.

CT Science Center – Tuesday, Dec 15

CT Science Center Permission Slip

On Tuesday, December 15, the Middle School will be attending a field trip to the Connecticut Science Center in order to experience all the exhibits with particular focus on “Forces in Motion” in support of our Science units on Motion, Forces, Friction, Gravity, and Newton’s Laws. We will be leaving at about 8:45 AM and returning at about 1:45 PM. There is no cost to attend this trip. Travel for the trip will be by school bus.

Dress code requirements will apply for all students. Students may bring their own lunch that can be eaten at the museum or may order a school cold lunch in advance.

We are in need of parent chaperones for this trip. Please contact any one of the middle school teachers as soon as possible and indicate your interest on the bottom of the permission slip. Please return the bottom portion of the permission slip to your homeroom teacher no later than 8:20 AM on Friday, December 11.

As parents of 8th graders we want to make sure each family takes time to visit the magnet high school that you would like your child to attend next year. The following dates and locations let you know when the open houses will be held at each school in December. During these information sessions you and your child will have the opportunity to visit the school, meet the staff and learn more about your High School of preference.

Science Fair Field Trip Postponed

The field trip to the Connecticut Science Center scheduled for December 9 has been postponed due to district testing. We are working with the Science Center to reschedule this trip.

First Quarter Report Cards and Conferences

Grades will close on November 6th for the first quarter of the middle school year. Report cards will be distributed at the Fall conferences. Conferences will be scheduled between Monday,  November 16th and Friday, November 20th.

Field trip: October 28th to CHS/ UHSSE

On Wednesday, October 28th we will have our scheduled field trip to the Connecticut Historical Society to view a program on Slavery in Connecticut for our upcoming history unit on Slavery and Colonialism, and then visit the University High School of Science and Engineering as part of our high school guidance program.

Students who did not order a school lunch should bring their own cold lunch and drink. Soda is not allowed. 

Students should be in dress code, bring their notebooks, history materials, and writing utensils.

MP3 players will not be allowed on this trip.

Field Trip – Wednesday, October 28

The middle school field trip to the Connecticut Historical Society and University High School of Science and Engineering is on Wednesday, October 28. While at the Historical Society, we will take part in a program entitled “Slavery in Connecticut.” To conclude our trip, we will tour the new facilities of the University High School of Science and Engineering in an effort to expose our students to some of the possibilities for school after Breakthrough Magnet.

The cost of this trip will be $1 per student. Permission slips must be signed and returned with $1 to a middle school teacher by Monday, October 26.

Math and Literacy Night – Thursday, 10/8
