Lottery Process

Breakthrough Magnet School accepts students through an application and lottery process, held each year in the spring. Applications for September enrollment are available starting in November. As an inter-district magnet school 25-30% of our student body are suburban students and 70-75% are from Hartford. We have a sibling friendly policy so when possible, we try to accommodate siblings, if space is available.

 

Breakthrough aims to have a diverse student body with a balance of one-third Hispanic, one-third African-American or black and one-third white or Asian students. Completed applications received by the lottery deadline are entered into a lottery for all available spots. The lottery also determines the order for the waiting list, for the remaining applications not selected.

 

Interested applicants must submit a new application for inclusion in the lottery each year. Applications received after the lottery deadline, are placed at the end of the waiting lists and are used in the event an opening occurs during the summer or during the school year.
